Protesting against Vietnamese Communist government’s exploitation of Bauxite mining in Central highlands and their continued violations of human rights. (May 03, 2009) - Vietnam is a dictatorial regime, which has been trampling on its citizens’ human rights unabated. The Vietnamese Communist Party is still the sole party ruling Vietnam ; the rights to form associations, to freedom of expression, to freedom of the press, freedom of thoughts and freedom of religion have been seriously violated. Recently, despite the protest of its citizenry, the Vietnamese Communist Party has totally shut out public opinion to allow China to pursue Bauxite mining in Vietnam’s central highlands. Disregarding the harmful destruction on the environment and the toxic effects of the red sludge discharge on human health, created by this bauxite mining. Yet the more grave and insidious threat is the presence of China and its fifth column, made up of the so-called Chinese technocrats, security army and labor force, which could lead to serious loss of Vietnam’s sovereignty in the long run. Faced with this Chinese threat, the communist leadership of Vietnam has been very cowardly, kowtowing to China's gradual encroachment of Vietnam territorial land and water as well as the self-determination of our nation, manifesting its very lackey status. While on the treatment of its own people, the Vietnamese leaders continue to show their abuse of power and oppression, trying to cling to their dictatorial self- aggrandizement and perpetual rule. Just for promoting democracy, human rights and the integrity of our nation borders, many democracy activists have been jailed by the Hanoi government. Writer Nguyen Xuan Nghia, teacher Vu Hung, poet Tran Duc Thach, student Ngo Quynh, sister Pham Thanh Nghien have all been imprisoned without trial since their arrests in September 2008. Through the exploiting of Bauxite mining along with the loss of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes, the Vietnamese Communist Party is going against the wish and aspiration of the people. The People's Democratic Party resolutely protests and condemns the Vietnamese Communist Party of dismissing the will and opinion of the people as well as ignoring the harmful effects on the lives of its citizens and the future viability of Vietnam. In our effort to condemn the Vietnamese government in the court of national and international public opinion, on May 3rd 2009 at various locations in Saigon, the members of The People's Democratic Party have strung mottos protesting Hanoi Bauxite mining and violation of human rights. Ngược lại, đối với nhân dân thì lại ra sức trấn áp, nhằm bảo vệ bộ máy độc tài. Vì đấu tranh cho dân chủ, nhân quyền và toàn vẹn lãnh thổ, nhiều chiến sĩ dân chủ đã bị nhà cầm quyền Hà nội bắt giam. Nhà văn Nguyễn Xuân Nghĩa, thầy giáo Vũ Hùng, nhà thơ Trần Đức Thạch, sinh viên Ngô Quỳnh, chị Phạm Thanh Nghiên hiện nay vẫn còn bị giam giữ chưa xét xử kể từ khi bị bắt hồi tháng 9 năm 2008. Qua sự kiện khai thác bô-xít cùng với việc để mất Trường Sa và Hoàng Sa, đảng CSVN đã và đang đi ngược lại nguyện vọng của nhân dân Việt Nam. Đảng DCND cực lực lên án đảng CSVN đã xem thường dư luận và bất chấp hậu quả nguy hại cho tương lai của dân tộc Việt Nam. For immediate release Geneva, 30 April 2009 Before the United Nations in Geneva: Demonstration for Human Rights and Religious Freedom during the Universal Periodic Review of Vietnam GENEVA, 30 April 2009 (VIETNAM COMMITTEE) - The Vietnam Committee on Human Rights and Quê Me: Action for Democracy in Vietnam are organizing a one-day demonstration at the Place des Nations, outside the United Nations headquarters in Geneva on 8th May 2009 from 8.00 am onwards to call for the respect of human rights and religious freedom in Vietnam. The demonstration will take place as Vietnam’s human rights record comes up for examination by the U.N. Human Rights Council under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Religious leaders, human rights defenders and representatives of Vietnamese organisations from the United States, Australia, France, Germany, Holland and Scandinavia will gather in the Place des Nations to alert international attention to the grave human rights abuses in Vietnam. Buddhist monks from the Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam (UBCV) will conduct interfaith prayers for religious freedom together with dignitaries from the Catholic, Protestant, Hoa Hao Buddhist, Cao Dai and other religious communities, and Vietnamese and international personalities will address the gathering. “The demonstration will be the voice of civil society”, said Vo Van Ai, President of the Vietnam Committee on Human Rights, an affiliate of the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH). “We will raise issues that the Vietnamese government will not mention in their report, and speak out on behalf of those who have no voice in Vietnam, and who suffer repression under Vietnam’s one-Party communist state”. This is the first time Vietnam will come before the Universal Periodic Review, a mechanism which subjects all U.N. member states to a scrutiny of their human rights record every 4 years. During the review, member states can question Vietnam and make recommendations for improvements on human rights. NGOs make written submissions that are compiled into a “stakeholders report” and used to question Vietnam during the session. The Vietnam Committee on Human Rights and the FIDH made a joint submission detailing a wide range of human rights abuses, including restrictions of religious freedom, censorship of the media and Internet, arbitrary detention of human rights defenders, democracy activists, journalists and other peaceful dissidents.
