The ceremony honoring the Trung Sisters was held in San Jose on March 25, 2007, by the Overseas Vietnamese Women's Association. This holiday was celebrated in Vietnam since the 1400s, but was outlawed by the Communist regime after the invasion of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975.
The Association president, Hoa B. Truong, asked the people in attendance to write to President Bush to seek freedom for the political and religious prisoners in Vietnam today.
