The response of the City of San Jose to this orderly rally of expression of viewpoint was to deny access to the public plaza in putting up chairs or allowing microphones and public speaking equipment.  The thousands of people, many elderly, were expected to "keep moving".

To their credit, the police who came did not break up the event, although they used yellow tape to cordon it for some inexplicable reason.  The plaza was cleaner after the people left than before they came -- everyone participated in picking up papers or stray cigarette butts (it is illegal to smoke in the plaza).  The group was orderly and friendly.

UPDATE:  The San Jose City Council voted  (7 to 4) to  leave the matter of the name to the businesses on Story Road.  Story and photo by  Dinh Do  in Nguoi  Viet Daily News http://www.nguoi-viet.com/absolutenm/anmviewer.asp?a=74912&z=1
