The head of the political section of the British Embassy in Hanoi, Paul Gaskell, reponds to July 16, 2006 message from Jean Libby, editor, Viet-Am Review that "We are aware of the story of the 'Flowers from Hell' manuscript and continue to support freedom of expression in Vietnam. Friends of the author Nguyen Chi Thien sent photos to a forensic analyst, Stutchman Laboratories of Napa, California, to determine if all the photos were of the same man. The conclusion was positive.
