Dear friends,

Last Saturday, July 29, the renowned poet Nguyeãn Chí Thieän spoke before a packed audience (some standing outside in the sun) about his poetry and his life which has been dedicated to freedom for the Vietnamese people.

On this day he was joined by five men who survived the Communist prisons in North Vietnam with him and now live in Orange County, California.  They testified that they knew him to be the same man.

There was no need for the 500 or more people who had gathered at Little Saigon Radio to see the evidence of the forensic photo examination which proves he is the same man who is in the USA today.  If there are some who did not feel the breath of freedom at this event they may examine this evidence--bilingual in presentation--at http://anhduong.net/nhvat/NguyenChiThien/JeanLibby-pressRelease.htm.  You will also find the poet's history on www.vietamreview.net .

This Sunday, August 6, Mr. Nguyeãn Chí Thieän will be signing his new book, Hoa Ñòa Nguïc, the complete poems from 1957 to 1996, at Little Saigon Radio in Houston, 6250 WestPark Drive, Houston, TX  70057.

The Vietnamese language newspaper in Virginia, Suc May, has reportedly apologized to Nguyen Chi Thien for its flagrant misunderstanding of American tolerance.  My thanks to the editor of Anh Döông, "Golden Pen"—the author Thuan Ño—and to knowledgeable people in the Vietnamese community who have explained to this newspaper's editor and publisher that freedom of the press in America does not include slander of public figures.

My own faith in Americans is restored because of six men who stood up in Orange County, California, last Saturday and told their story to their own people who assembled in freedom to listen--all in Vietnamese.
