Statement from Jean Libby, made at the Ramada Hotel, Garden Grove, October 25, 2008

I have not erased materials on my websites about Nguyen Chi Thien.  I have not lost faith in his authenticity as the author of Hoa Dia Nguc, or the international meaning of his life and work as resistance to Communist imprisonment based on forced labor, starvation, and torture.

I am not the author of the Autobiography of Nguyen Chi Thien, which the Saigon Nho newspaper issue #881, October 10 2008 states three times.   I registered three copyrights for Nguyen Chi Thien at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.  as his agent.  In speaking by telephone with the copyright officer he told me that transcribing, interviewing with direct quotations, and physical preparation of manuscripts for publishing is not an author function. My function is properly cited by the Viet Nam Literature Project, the University of Hawaii Press, Yale University Southeast Asia Studies, and the Saigon Arts, Culture, Education Institute in Virginia. 

 I require Saigon Nho Weekly to publish in the magazine, in Vietnamese, an apology to Dan Duffy and to me.
