A history correction is needed for this story. Problem is, the war commonly called the American War by the Vietnamese Communists was a war between two countries that were set by the Geneva Convention of 1954: North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The Americans were allied with South Vietnam and supported this country including troops and bombing. The Russians and Chinese were allied with North Vietnam and supported this country including military aid (such as Surface to Air Missiles, modern weaponry) and troops at the border so North Vietnam could invade South Vietnam. The Americans withdrew in 1973, following the Paris Peace Accords, not 1975. The war with South Vietnam ended in 1975 when North Vietnam invaded in contradiction of the Paris Accords (which they signed) when they saw the United States would not fulfill its pledge of support due to the Watergate scandal and resignation of President Richard Nixon. Over a million South Vietnamese were imprisoned after 1975.
